Small Steps: Tips to Keep in Mind When Your Child Is Learning to Walk

By Suzanne Juel IBCLC | April 10, 2020

Watching your child learn to walk is a wonderful, albeit stressful, time in your life. You need to ensure that they have access to clear walkways and the right footwear, but they aren’t able to reach heat sources, like stoves.

WORTH IT. Time, money, everything. Book the appointment. Being in the newborn trenches for a third time and two successful prior breastfeeding experiences, I debated on scheduling an appointment. My primary concern was over-active letdown and pump fitting. Wasn’t sure I’d learn much more than I already knew or could google. Incorrect. I saw Kathy Lenert, an absolute wealth of information. I was impressed at her ability to teach, be hands on, and remember all of my needs. Was given extensive after-visit summary, which I appreciated. Truly wish I had seen her with all my kids. Practical tips: Bring a helper and TAKE NOTES. I learned so so much. Parking is easy. Elevator is a bit small if you have a monster (large) stroller - but should fit. Will not fit more than two people and a stroller though.

The appointment with Tessa exceeded my expectations. These ladies have done their due diligence in not only educating themselves on how to comprehensively address feeding issues with your baby and you but they ALSO ensure they pass on their knowledge based on you and your baby’s needs. In addition to care that goes beyond anything I have seen in a medical/appointment type setting, these women have ensured that most insurance coverages will be accepted by their practice. It was so nice to not have to think about filing claims or super bills in the midst of postpartum. Thank you, BCB!

Had a home visit during COVID...the LC that came was wearing a mask and was disinfecting everything which was a bonus! She corrected my baby’s latch in the first try and it was a game changer! I didn’t realize I wasn’t doing it right! She gave me some exercises to help with my baby’s minor tongue tie which I appreciated vs going straight to the operation route. We are 7 weeks now and things are great! Baby’s latch is strong and she is gaining weight. I was hating breast feeding before...now I’m loving it!

I have seen Nicole K. twice and during both appointments, she was extremely patient, did weighted feeds, provided tips, and made breastfeeding much easier for me and my little one. She was very thorough and went through my pump/flange size with me as well. She was happy to answer all my questions and did not make me feel rushed at all. I would highly recommend her!
