Went from my baby boy NOT being able to latch (exclusively pumping), to using a nipple shield, to direct breastfeeding and the whole process was under the guidance of Tessa. I cannot recommend bayou city breastfeeding enough! It’s been an amazing experience. All my visits were relaxing and impactful. All my questions were answered- Tessa and the other ibclc’s are too knowledgeable for their own good 🤣. Any mama looking for assistance in their breastfeeding journey should look no further!!

I am so thankful for home visits during this time (pandemic). Bayou City Breastfeeding as a company did great as a company to make sure we were safe. Asked us for temperatures prior to letting our LC come into our home. When she arrived she immediately washed her hand and was wearing a mask. I absolutely love Tiphany! We started seeing Karen when my baby was 2 weeks old due to not gaining enough weight and a tongue tie, now my baby is almost 5 months, EBF and gaining like a champ! It was so hard and every week in the beginning I just made it my goal to get to my next lactation appointment. Karen was always so encouraging, kind and helpful. She truly understood what I was going through and made me feel so important and seen. I'm so grateful for BCB and especially Karen! I was extremely happy with the experience I had with Ali with Bayou City Breastfeeding! She came to my home in Montgomery, TX to evaluate my 2 week old baby and me. I was having difficulties with breastfeeding, and Ali was able to identify my baby’s issue almost immediately. She helped us come up with a plan to help with the issue, helped me navigate my breast pump, and gave us tips to make our feeding experience as good as possible. Ali was so sweet and made us feel very comfortable- not to mention, very knowledgeable! The communication from start to finish with all the staff was also great! Highly recommend!

I’ve reviewed bayou city breastfeeding before with my first born and it was fantastic. I’m here to write a second review since we used them again for my second baby. I thought everything was going well until week 8 when we started to see bottle refusal and over just general fussiness and not sleeping longer than an hour. We saw Ariel for what we thought was bottle refusal. Ariel listened to a bunch of information we threw at her, patiently let us show her what was happening, and had it figured out in minutes. She identified a tongue tie that another LC and a pediatrician had both missed, referred us to a wonderful dentist and within two weeks, our baby was back and feeding better than before. It’s also important to note Ariel did not push to have the tie released or pressure us into anything. She simply told us what she saw and referred us to several great specialists. We cannot thank Ariel enough for being so incredible at her job. We feel so lucky to have found Bayou City Breastfeeding. Thank you Ariel and team!!

I cannot express how wonderful of an experience I had with Bayou City Breastfeeding and my lactation consultant, Mary. I met with Mary prior to having my daughter and met with her regularly over the first 4 months since she was born. We tackled together a tongue and lip tie prior to and post-surgery, along with latching and supply issues. Mary is kind and always made me feel extremely comfortable at our visits. She spent so much time with us asking all the necessary questions, showing and suggesting different techniques to use and seeing how much my daughter was being fed. We miss seeing her and thank her so much for all of the help she provided to us.

As a first time parents my partner and I were struggling with breastfeeding. Bayou city was recommended by our midwife and they have done an amazing job helping us adjust. They answer all questions and provide excellent education on how to properly breastfeed, how to utilize the pump effectively, and how much to feed etc. They help you come up with a feeding plan every time we have met. Tessa is an AMAZING consultant. I literally ask her about everything! I rely on her more than I rely on my son's doctor. When I ask the pediatrician a question, I usually get "He's fine", but with Tessa I get explanations and details that help me better understand certain things. Dr. Emily is heaven sent as she helped to loosen my baby. The exercises have been working very well with him and he so flexible now and sleeps so much better. Her patience with babies is wonderful!!

Mary was an amazing IBCLC. She spent hours listening, working with us, and consulting different resources to get our 4.5lb emergency C-section baby from his feeding tube, through a tie release procedure to a happy little guy who nursed until he was almost 2. With my first child, my breastfeeding journey was terrible due to edema, low milk supply, and not so good advice from the hospital and lactation consultant. For my second child, I promised myself to be more prepared and that is how I found this practice. I was able to breastfeed my second baby and have some spare milk on the freezer. My only regret is not reaching out to Suzanne the first time around. I keep thinking how things would have been different if she had been my lactation consultant with my first child. The team here is amazing. Please reach out, even if you think it is already too late, they truly keep up and set personalized goals.

We are grateful that Suzanne was able to make a home visit to evaluate my son's lip/tongue tie in the middle of a pandemic. She came highly recommended by our baby doula and our son's dentist's office. First of all, Suzanne understood our worries about COVID-19 and did everything she could to put our minds at ease and to keep us and our baby safe by being transparent about their cleaning protocols and by following very strict home visit protocols (reporting temperatures, masks on, gloves on, social distancing, hand washing, and diligently disinfecting equipments, etc). I would not have put my trust on anyone else to come in to our home at this time. During the visit, she was very thorough in taking my son's history, from birth up until now, and doing a complete physical evaluation from head to toe. Given her background and experience, she was able to identify additional issues quickly and make recommendations in order to avoid invasive procedures in the future. When the issue was not within her scope of practice, she immediately identified pertinent help for us to mitigate the issue. She followed up with us via email and text to make sure our questions were answered. She was extremely efficient, straightforward, and thoughtful, which is exactly the qualities we looked for in healthcare provider. We very much have enjoyed our visit with Suzanne and so did my 13-week old son!

Brandy, Suzanne and the team are amazing! They came to our rescue when our 2 weeks old baby was in dire need of help. Suzanne gave us a video call within the same day and properly diagnosed the issue that our doctor couldn't. Brandy gave practical professional advice that we can easily follow. She does it all with such passion and care for us and our baby. My husband and I are blown away by their level of knowledge, expertise and professionalism. We are so so grateful for their service. The fruit of their labour is evident: after a short period of time, baby is gaining weight and he is so much healthier and I have more than enough milk to feed him! Highly Recommend!

I can’t say enough good things about Tessa and how much she has helped this first time mom. She has calmed my anxieties and taught me SO MUCH about breastfeeding, positions, baby’s tongue movement, and body work. Her referral to our pediatric dentist and instructions after our tongue tie release has greatly healed my baby. Moreso, she’s so prompt with messages and will fit me in her schedule when I’m in a pinch. Our appointments are never rushed, and time just flies by in the most wonderful way. I truly never thought how much I’d need a lactation counselor as someone who’s been working with pregnant moms and moms with babies for years, but my baby isn’t even three months yet and we’ve visited her twice a month. She keeps the atmosphere super zen and uplifting. I’d go in ready to cry, end up laughing, and leave excited to implement the recommendations she’s made. Her depth of knowledge, expertise, and passion is evident. My infant always seems happier, physically relaxed, and her latch progresses so much after our visits with Tessa. The office .... well ... they’re a hot mess. Booked my appointment, removed it from the calendars, booked it again, lost it again, booked it a 3rd time and that finally stuck. Then they asked me to fill out intake paperwork twice. I paid for the home visit, and they tried to run my card a second time because they somehow couldn’t see that the charge had been processed, applied to my account, and a receipt had been auto-emailed to me? Thankfully my bank caught it as a suspicious charge and wouldn’t let them run it a second time more than a week after the first charge was applied and cleared.

Don’t let the train wreck admin situation deter you - again - the visit with Erica was amazing and so very helpful. Just watch the office carefully and make sure you communicate well.

Response from the owner:Jennifer, I am so sorry for all the confusion and difficulty with the scheduling and billing portion, and am glad that you found the visit with Erica to be helpful. I think that the admin problems occurred for a couple of reasons, and I want to explain -- but understand this is not intended to be an excuse. We have recently brought on two new admins, and they are still learning the systems. The original appointment was created on the wrong day, and once the admin realized that error, instead of moving the appointment, she created a new appointment for you on the correct date. This is why you got two sets of forms, and also why we tried to bill you twice. I have discussed this with the Admin team to try to prevent it from happening in the future. One of the things we try to do is to give opportunities to stay at home moms to work on our admin team. This is one of the core principles of our organization -- giving opportunties to moms who wouldn't otherwise be able to work. Every member of our admin team works from home and has very young children. This, unfortunately, does result sometimes in us making mistakes that probably wouldn't have happened if we outsourced our administration/billing/scheduling to a third-party company. But each member of our admin team is being given the opportunity to learn skills that they can then take into the workforce once their children are older. So sometimes, when you call us, you may hear a crying baby (or toddlers) in the background, and things are sometimes chaotic. But giving these women this opportunity that they would not otherwise have is too important to us to give up. Again, we are sorry about the confusion and errors that were made with scheduling/billing your appointment, and please know that we appreciate your feedback and will try to do better in the future. Great customer service when it comes to virtual support and office sessions, but needs to improve on fulfilling commitments for in-home sessions. I contacted them months prior to delivery to identify an LC that does in-home visits to prepare for when I got home from the hospital. We further discussed the in-home visit during my initial office consultation and had weekly communications to provide updates on potential delivery timing. The in-home visit was cancelled due to their busy schedule with other customers and unfortunately they wanted me to travel to their office when I got home from the hospital.

This is our second baby with Bayou City Breastfeeding. Our first had many complicated issues so this time I wanted to be prepared. Suzanne helped me get everything in line when I was still pregnant so we would be prepared. Although we are facing some of the same issues (ties), this time has been much easier to deal with because we started with such a knowledgeable IBCLC. Her scope of knowledge is unmatched. I’m fighting an infection in my incision and she knew whether or not the meds prescribed were safe for breastfeeding. I also lost a lot of blood during delivery which caused low iron which could have caused low milk supply so she recommended some supplements right away.
In general, her knowledge is unmatched. The way she cares for moms is unbelievable. I only wish I would have known her for all of our kids.

Reaching out to Bayou City Breastfeeding was a pivotal moment early on in my breastfeeding journey! I was in so much pain that I was holding back tears every time I fed my baby and remember a point when I started to bleed during a middle of the night feed and thinking to myself “I don’t think I can continue on with this”, even though I wanted to so badly. A few days later I had an appointment with Ariel at BCB and she helped me work on latching the baby properly and identified a tongue and lip tie, which might have forever gone unnoticed if she hadn’t pointed it out as I had never even heard of this before.
She was so helpful, understanding and resourceful. Understanding how to latch the baby properly took time, but that alone helped my pain SO MUCH. Once we were able to see a pediatric dentist to address the ties, everything got so much better and my baby started eating and gaining weight like a champ. I’m 6+ months into breastfeeding and don’t think I would have made it this far if I hadn’t scheduled that first appointment.

I highly recommend Ariel and BCB for addressing any concerns you may have around breastfeeding. It feels so good to have knowledgeable people in your corner supporting you and your baby though this BF journey.

Little late posting my review but better late than never!
I first saw Nicole on 1/1 of this year and due to previous experiences at a different business, I was skeptical but wanted to try for my newborn since I was only producing an ounce or two a day. Nicole was absolutely AMAZING! She listened to my rambling and understood my concerns. Unlike the previous consultant, Nicole actually examined me and explained that it wasn't my fault I wasn't producing as much as I wanted. She gave me options to try to increase my supply but also set expectations that I would have to still supplement due to my condition. She helped me rid of the guilt I felt because I thought I wasn't doing enough.
After a few more visits, a massive drop in supply (thanks to my body), and a good cry in Nicole's office, I decided my breastfeeding journey was over. She was completely supportive and advocated for myself and my baby. She also explained to me the benefits of still latching even though I didn't really have supply.
I highly recommend Nicole and this entire company!! They will go above and beyond to make sure you are taken care of, that you understand everything, and they aren't going to overwhelm you.

I am so thankful that I was referred to BCB from a pediatric dentist in the area. He recommended that I visit the Kingwood office for a combo visit which includes ~ body work (with a chiropractor) and also a session with the lactation consultant. My daughter who was scheduled to have her oral restriction (tongue tie) remediated demonstrated a painful latch, weight loss at 10%, etc. After several combo visits and some lactation only visits, we fell into a groove with nursing and at 3 months we have not had to follow through with the remediation surgery. I highly recommend BCB. All of their staff is phenomenal.

I’m a first time mom and my baby had to have a mouth procedure. These ladies. Helped me navigate how to best help her and heal her mouth!

Additionally, I am an over supplier and get frequent clogged milk ducts, they were able to teach me how to work through this!

I am a first time mom, so as you can imagine I had a ton of questions related to breastfeeding once I left the hospital. I felt like my little one’s latch was weak and that I wasn’t producing enough milk because of it. That same day I called BCB and spoke to Suzanne over the phone. She was amazing at getting my husband and I set up for in home visits. Not only that, but she scheduled a video call that day so she could assist me in the meantime. We were able to establish a strong latch so that my baby could get nutrition before our in home visit. Fast forward a few days and Tiphany came over. She is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She gave us some exercises to do with our baby and showed me several techniques to secure a good latch. I feel so much better knowing that my baby is getting what she needs thanks to BCB! Bayou City Breastfeeding, Mary in particular, have been incredible. I called during a time of desperation, with a week old baby and no clue how hard breastfeeding was going to be. I am so thankful that we were referred here and that we could get the help we needed with breastfeeding! I came at 1 week postpartum and my baby had lost a little too much weight for our pediatrician’s liking so we had to supplement with formula. Upon going to the consultation Amy was able to tell that he has a lip tie and a lot of tension in his body that made nursing more difficult for him and me. She guided us through a nursing session and helped to get a good latch along with a comfortable position for us and then assessed his weight gain. She showed us a better way to bottle feed a breastfed baby and also taught me how to use my pump correctly to increase my supply. I also really loved that she gave us exercises to help relax his mouth and face as well as suggested bodywork to see if his lip tie will correct itself! I would highly recommend any breastfeeding mom to go as soon as you can after birth, and while breastfeeding is hard work it can be made so much easier when you get quality help from an LC! We can’t wait for our follow up visit to see how it is improving!

If not for BCB, I would have had a very different breastfeeding outcome. Breastfeeding was painful, verging on unbearable, before discovering and reversing my daughter’s oral ties. Because of the ongoing care and attention from Suzanne and other providers at BCB, our breastfeeding journey is still going strong at 14 months. Had a home visit during COVID...the LC that came was wearing a mask and was disinfecting everything which was a bonus! She corrected my baby’s latch in the first try and it was a game changer! I didn’t realize I wasn’t doing it right! She gave me some exercises to help with my baby’s minor tongue tie which I appreciated vs going straight to the operation route. We are 7 weeks now and things are great! Baby’s latch is strong and she is gaining weight. I was hating breast feeding before...now I’m loving it!

When I called Suzanne the day my daughter was born because I was concerned she might have a tongue tie, Suzanne was quick to find someone in my area who could make a home visit...and she was able to come over that evening! When Suzanne found out I didn’t have insurance she offered to let me apply for their grant which greatly reduced the financial burden and allowed me to get the immediate help I needed to get us on the right track for breastfeeding. Mary was our lactation consultant and she has been a God-send. She is so experienced and knowledgeable about breastfeeding, lip and tongue ties and she is always so encouraging! She took her time with each appointment we had with her. I wanted to avoid giving my babe the bottle and she helped us navigate our breastfeeding journey in a way that helped us stay on the right track...getting my babe the nourishment she needed while keeping her at the breast as much as possible...all without introducing the bottle. Mary was always checking in on us between appointments through text and phone calls. Because of Mary’s incredible support my babe is very close to being weaned off the supplementation and completely exclusively breastfeeding!

Wow! If you are trying to find a place that will take the time to talk to you and help you with your breastfeeding needs, this is it. My consult was 1 hour 20 min, and our lactation specialist was helpful and had such great information and tips. She helped me latch my baby and gave me great feedback on how to do it, which is what I’m struggling with. She evaluated my baby as well and gave us exercises to do at home to help with the lip and tongue ties. She scheduled a follow up visit to see our progress in the next week. All in all, so grateful to have this resource. Highly recommend it!

Mary was a great help with my breastfeeding journey. She is amazing with children and very knowledgeable.

My journey was a bumpy one because I didn’t have the birth plan I wanted and struggled with supply.

Mary tried every path in a methodical way so we knew what worked.

Although we did not get to the point of exclusive breastfeeding I definitely learned a lot and able to give my child as much as I can provide while supplementing with formula.

As a first time mom, we realize quickly that breastfeeding is not that easy for you or baby and learning tips and tricks on positioning and how to get baby nutrition is a learning process.

Went for my first appointment here as a prenatal to get prepared. I now know how to use all the devices I got for self care and breast feeding. I feel more confident I will be better prepared. They even show you how to hold your baby and to get then to latch! I wanted more then what the newborn class I had to take had and I got it. It's also in a brand new building!

Melissa Carrera was a wonderful support system during my breastfeeding journey. My initial goal was 100% breastfeeding; however, my baby had lost over 10% of his weight by his first pediatrician appointment so we immediately started supplementing with formula and pumped milk. I was initially sad and felt guilty that breastfeeding was not working but Melissa reassured me that breastfeeding did not have to be an all or nothing process. I faced several setbacks such as thrush, mastitis, several clogged ducts and Melissa provided me with the tools and emotional support to get through all of those issues when I felt like wanting to quit several times. She answered my messages at odd hours in the night and on weekends. Her presence is extremely calming, nurturing, and supportive. My baby is now 4 months old and I am on a sustainable pumping schedule with the occasional formula supplementation and I could not have done it without Melissa’s support!

After the birth of my first child in 2018 I naively thought that my child and I would know how to breastfeed and it would come naturally. Well the first month of his life he struggled to gain weight. So I looked for a lactation consultant covered by Aetna and found Bayou City Breastfeeding. I was consulted by Tessa Gardin. Looking back I wish I would have found Tessa sooner because she provided so much useful information. She is the reason I took my son to a chiropractor for cranio sacral adjustments and he was able to latch better. She is also the reason my milk output doubled and I was able to breastfeed until 11 months. After my second child was born on July 2020 I knew that I needed appointments with an LC right away. My daughter struggled with latch on my left breast, was biting my nipples and preferred to turn her head to her left side. So I saw Suzanne Juel 3 days after the birth. Suzanne is equally as helpful as Tessa and provided a lot of educational resources and diagrams that illustrated breastfeeding, milk production, and foods that increase milk supply. Suzanne showed me some alternate feeding positions that I use now since they are more comfortable. Suzanne recommended that my daughter get chiropractic adjustments. I took my daughter to a chiropractor and the adjustments improved her alignment significantly. Now my daughter does not have any latch issues, she is able to remove all the milk out on her own and she is no longer biting. She has exceeded the required weight gain for her age.

I was originally resistant to schedule time with an external lactation consultant because I thought I had a pretty good grasp with breastfeeding but after a tough day I ended up making the call and I’m very glad I did. I learned so much more from them than I expected to and feel so much more prepared and knowledgeable about how to feed my baby. We covered breastfeeding latching but also lots of info about feeding and weight in general. They also taught me a lot about pumping and helped me discover my babies tongue tie and all the options about how to deal with it. Bayou City Breastfeeding has saved my family twice. After two kids with significant weight loss and tongue ties, we wouldn’t be where we are if not for Suzanne and her team. Just last week after our newborn had lost a concerning amount of weight in just a couple days after birth, Suzanne worked us in for a visit to check on him and then helped to get us in for an urgent visit with the dentist for a tongue tie release.
