We understand that our clients are concerned about the current outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19). As a practice, we are actively monitoring the situation and wanted to let you know what we are doing to ensure everyone's safety.

For in-person visits, we are following the recent CDC coronavirus guidelines regarding the COVID-19 virus.  We are also offering clients the option to book a virtual consultation.

If you have an upcoming in-person appointment, we are implementing a COVID-19 screening process.  You will be contacted before your appointment to screen for factors that increase the risk of being a COVID-19 carrier.  Based on the results, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment or to have a virtual consultation.

We follow the same screening guidelines for our Lactation Consultants as we do for our clients.  If a consultant or a member of their family has had exposure to COVID-19, we have implemented a 14-day quarantine policy.  During the 14-day quarantine, the IBCLC will not be allowed to see clients.

We have a thorough screening for all clients and staff.  Here are the questions we will ask in our screening:

  • Have you or your family traveled in the past two weeks?
  • Have you or your family had a cough, fever, or has been ill within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment?
  • Have you or your family has had close contact with a person who is under investigation for 2019- COVID-19 infection (Coronavirus) in the past 14 days.
  • Have you and your family been social distancing in the past 2 weeks
  • Have you or your family have attended any events with more than 10 people, and if you will be asked if you wore a mask during the event.
  • You will be asked to list everyone who will be present for the consultation
  • On the day of your visit, we will contact you and ask you to take your temperature to screen for fever.

If the screening results determine that you cannot have an in-person visit, you will be given the option to schedule a virtual consultation, or you can reschedule your visit. No cancellation fees will be charged if the appointment is rescheduled due to the screening results.

During our appointments, we follow the recommended guidelines from the World Health Organization.

  • We clean and sanitize all our equipment before and after every visit.
  • We always wash our hands before and after every visit and use alcohol-based hand sanitizer during the visit.
  • We always wear a mask during the entire visit and wear gloves whenever touching you or your baby.
  • We limit close contact as much as possible during the visit.
  • We only allow the breastfeeding parent, infant(s), and one support person in the visit.
  • We require any adults present to wear a mask unless they have tested negative for COVID-19.
  • If you have a home visit scheduled, please make sure to have hand soap and paper towels available for your IBCLC to use during the visit.

We offer Virtual Consultations through our HIPAA compliant secure telehealth video platform SpruceHealth.</a href>

If you would like to have your consultation via video conferencing, let us know!

To schedule a virtual consultation, you can Call/Text: +1 (281) 305-0411 or visit our online scheduling website.

Current recommendations for breastfeeding parents

Breastfeeding is recommended for all babies, regardless of the parent's COVID-19 status. COVID-19 antibodies have been discovered in breastmilk.  And we know that breastmilk gives infants the highest level of protection against respiratory illness.

If you are COVID-19 positive and wish to breastfeed your baby, you should use precautionary measures (wash hands, wear a mask, cough into your elbow, etc.) when breastfeeding, but you may still breastfeed directly.

Resources for breastfeeding parents

Below are links to trusted resources for more information about COVID-19 and breastfeeding.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know it can be confusing for new parents, since there are so many different people offering to help with breastfeeding. And even if parents are looking at credentials to figure out who has the skills needed to help their situation, there are just too many different certifications. (Breastfeeding Educators, Certified Lactation Counselors (CLC), WIC Peer Counselors, La Leche League Leaders, Breastfeeding USA Counselors, Breastfeeding Specialists, Registered Nurses, Newborn Care Specialists, Postpartum Doulas and on and on....)

Those of us in the lactation world call this the "alphabet soup" of lactation credentials.

What is an IBCLC®?

IBCLC's (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant®.) are healthcare workers who have extensive education and experience supporting breastfeeding families.

What does an IBCLC do?

An IBCLC provides skilled lactation management for everything from general lactation education and basic latch issues to more complicated lactation problems, such as tongue-tie or weight gain problems.

How are IBCLCs different from everyone else providing breastfeeding support?

A lot of these breastfeeding helpers have some lactation training, and may have even been required to take a exam showing basic breastfeeding knowledge. The difference is the level of education, training, and the hundreds of hours of hands on clinical experience required before you can even be be approved to take the IBCLC exam. Additionally, the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLE)® ensures that the IBCLC exam is comprehensive. The IBCLC is considered to be the Gold Standard of lactation knowledge.

How do you become an IBCLC?

In order to become an IBCLC, you must complete a specific college curriculum of Health Science Education, you must complete at least 90 hours of lactation specific education, and complete between 300 - 1000 hours of hands on clinical hours. There are three pathways that candidates can use to achieve the IBCLC.

IBCLC’s are required to re-certify with continuing education and clinical hours or by exam every five years to demonstrate current knowledge.

Before their first visit, clients often ask how seeing a private practice IBCLC is different than seeing the LC in the hospital. But by the end of the first visit, everyone always says that they had no idea how different this experience really is. Here are some of the reasons why the support you get in the hospital just can’t compare to a private practice visit.

Time is limited.

In the hospital environment, the lactation specialist, nurse, or IBCLC has a set amount of patients to see during each shift and can’t spend a lot of time with anyone. They usually are expected to see at least 12-15 or more new mothers each shift, and patients will often see a different person for lactation support each day!

While the IBCLCs in the hospital work very hard, being a hospital-based IBCLC is very difficult – we know, because we’ve been there. They have a lot of information to teach in a short amount of time, and parents often get different and sometimes conflicting information from every IBCLC, nurse, or doctor they see.

Information Overload

Most patients are exhausted from their birth and often on medications that make it even more difficult to absorb what everyone is telling them. In our private practice, we spend time with you and your family to develop a relationship that spans your breastfeeding journey.

Our initial visit lasts 2-3 hours, and follow up appointments are generally 1-2 hours long. We know that this is a long time out of a new parent’s day, but it is vital to do a full assessment of both the parent and baby and understand each unique situation to create a care plan specific to that parent and their baby.

Assessment is difficult in the early days

Another problem is that many hospitals do not allow their IBCLCs to do a full assessment of the baby, so often, issues like lip and tongue ties are missed. Most patients are in the hospital for only one or two nights, well before their milk is in, and milk supply can be adequately assessed.

Most problems don't show up until you are home.

Most breastfeeding problems don’t show up until the mother’s milk comes in, usually on day 3-5 postpartum, and parents are left with limited resources to help with these breastfeeding problems.

So why choose our practice?

Our practice has multiple IBCLCs with advanced training in many complex issues. This allows us to not only cover a large geographical area but also to help match patients with the best IBCLC for their specific situation. In complex cases, we refer and cross-consult within our practice, so you always get the best information and guidance possible.

Our practice provides support for new parents throughout their breastfeeding journey, beginning in the prenatal period, in the hospital, continuing after returning home, and through weaning and we believe in walking beside you to support the full lifespan of your breastfeeding relationship.

Parents are often amazed at the wide range of things that we can help with. It is not just about breastfeeding! Hopefully this list will help give you a better idea.

What do you do in a lactation visit?

The answer to this question is really a lot more than you probably think!

Most visits consist of the following:

  1. Birthing / Breastfeeding parent health history review
  2. Baby(s) health history review
  3. Breast exam/assessment
  4. Infant exam/assessment (including oral assessment)
  5. Feeding observation and assessment (weighted feed and/or observation of bottle feeding)
  6. Breast pump observation and assessment
  7. Education on relevant topics
  8. Creation of a personalized care plan
  9. Creation of report for physician(s)

How much time will my lactation specialist spend with me?

In a typical initial consultation with us, you will spend 2-3 hours with your IBCLC, and 1-2 hours in a typical follow up visit. And even before your first visit, we have you fill out detailed intake forms, so that we can review them before your visit.

Why is the visit so long?

A visit with us will be different than any other health-related visit you have ever experienced. Our visits are time intensive, multi-dimensional and comprehensive. Often feeding issues are multi-factorial -- in other words -- there are multiple things impacting the feeding. In lactation, we are the only medical providers who have two patients and we treat the parent and baby together.

Choosing what type of visit to have

We offer 3 ways you can have a lactation consultation. If you live in the greater Houston area, you can choose to have an IBCLC come to your home. We also have 5 convenient office locations throughout Houston (Greenway Plaza, Kingwood, Conroe, Cypress and Pearland). Or, you can even choose to visit with us virtually through our HIPAA compliant telehealth system, Spruce Health. So, what is the difference between each type of visit, and how do you choose which one is best for you?

In Home Visits

Having a lactation consultant visit you in your home is a wonderful choice. You get the benefit of having assistance in your normal environment and you don't have to brave Houston traffic. We can also work on positions that are difficult to do in an office environment, such as side-laying in bed while feeding. Home visits are an ideal choice for breastfeeding parents who may not yet have been cleared to drive, or parents with multiples (twins or triplets). Your IBCLC will bring a scale to weigh your baby at the visit and to do a weighted feed if appropriate.

Insurance coverage for home visits

Many of the insurance plans we take will cover the visit fee for a home visit; however, some Aetna plans do not cover this service. Additionally, some Aetna plans will apply a deductible, copay or coinsurance on home visits. If this happens, we are required to charge you these fees. Please check with your plan on coverage.

Travel charges for home visits

We charge a $60 trip/convenience fee for home visits to cover the travel time and cost and because we typically are not able to see as many clients in a day when doing in-home visits.

COVID-19 Screening for home visits

We require COVID-19 screening for all home visits, and will ask that you take your temperature prior to your IBCLC's arrival. Your IBCLC will remove their shoes and wear a mask prior to entering your home. The visit is limited to the breastfeeding parent, baby(s) and one additional caregiver.

Office Visits

Seeing your IBCLC in one of our conveniently located offices is a great choice. Because we are able to see more clients in a day when doing office visits, sometimes these visits are available sooner than a home visit. Even if you choose to have your initial visit in your home, we can often do follow up visits in one of our office locations. With office visits, there is no additional travel fee.

What to bring to an office visit

When being seen in one of our offices, we ask that you bring anything you are using when feeding your baby with you to your visit. We may also ask you to bring your breast pump to your visit. If you are using powered formula, please bring water with you to your visit.

COVID-19 screening for office visits

We require COVID-19 screening for in office visits, and will ask that you take your temperature prior to your arrival at our office. We do not use a waiting room at any of our office locations. If you are scheduled for an office visit, you will be asked to text us when you arrive, and your IBCLC will notify you when you can come directly into the office. We sanitize the office locations between scheduled clients. The visit is limited to the breastfeeding parent, baby(s) and one additional caregiver.

Virtual Visits

You might be surprised at what we can accomplish during a virtual visit! These visits are perfect for clients who are not located in Houston, for those who choose to not be seen in person, or for those clients who do not pass our COVID-19 screening. While the actual "visit" time is usually about an hour, we do ask you to provide a lot of information, pictures and videos prior to the visit for us to review ahead of time. This helps ensure we make the best use of our time together.

Insurance Coverage For Lactation Services

The good news is that for many clients, insurance will often pay for all or a portion of the visit fees. We are currently able to accept selected plans from the following insurance providers:

Aetna
We are in network with most Aetna plans, except for the Memorial Hermann ACO and KelseyCare. Some Aetna plans charge a copay/coinsurance or deductible for services.

BlueCross Blue Shield and Cigna∗

∗ Accepted through our partnership with The Lactation Network

Click here to have your insurance coverage checked

What if you don't accept my insurance?

When we can't accept your insurance, we do require clients to pay for the services when rendered, but we provide a timely payment discount for these clients. Payment must be made within 1 business day. We can also provide a super-bill for you to file with your insurance company.

The Affordable Care Act requires that most health insurance plans, except self-funded and grandfathered plans, provide access to trained lactation support at no cost to the mother. So even if we don't accept your insurance, you may still be able to get your insurance company to reimburse you for your lactation visit.

What if I want to pay for a visit for someone else?

You can choose to purchase a gift card in any denomination for a lactation visit through Square.

What forms of payment do you take?

You will be required to give us a valid credit card number after scheduling your first visit with us. Our normal process is to charge the credit card you provided for your visit on the first business day after your visit. Delay in payment for a visit may result in forfeiture of the timely payment discount.

Using a FSA or HSA to pay for services

Clients who have an FSA (flexible spending account) or HSA (healthcare spending account) may use these funds to pay for their lactation visits.

Using an FSA or HSA does not prevent you from filing for reimbursement with your insurance company; however, if the insurer does reimburse you for the services, you may have to redeposit the funds in your account. We recommend that you discuss this with your accountant for specific advice.

Bayou city (Mary and Amy) have been such a blessing to me while breastfeeding my third. This time around I was met with clogs and mastitis multiple times. Be able to meet with Mary and have her help and support was a huge help to my mental well being. Being able to send a message when I had a concern and knowing a response would be received in a timely manner helped ease my mind. From checking my pump settings, helping me reduce clogs and ultimately supporting me in making my plan to wean, they have provided me with the support I’ve needed every step of the way! Thank you Bayou City Breastfeeding Lactation Consultants!

Seriously THE BEST! Ms Suzanne helped me when I felt there was no hope. My son had to go through THREE tongue tie procedures. The third she came to WITH US and was in the room with him instead of me. She’s helped me get son to gain weight and supported me as a mother. I’m not a big speech person, but she’s AMAZING! I feel right at home talking to her. I don’t want to know where my family would be through the last pandemic, fear filled year if it wasn’t for her!

Erica was an incredible calming and grounding presence for me as I prepare prenatally to breastfeed. She was extremely thorough, patiently listened as I talked her ear off about my complicated history with breastfeeding, and was very gentle and comforting with her exam/assessment of my anatomy. She was welcoming and sweet with my toddler so I could feel completely at ease the whole visit. She left me feeling extremely supported and empowered that I am ready and able to get breastfeeding off to a healthy start. I look forward to seeing her again when baby is born. I give her my highest recommendation!

I have seen Nicole K. twice and during both appointments, she was extremely patient, did weighted feeds, provided tips, and made breastfeeding much easier for me and my little one. She was very thorough and went through my pump/flange size with me as well. She was happy to answer all my questions and did not make me feel rushed at all. I would highly recommend her!

Tiphany was amazing. She listened to my concerns, and was certain to address each one, including my skepticism about using bodywork to help address tongue and lips tie issues. Her instructions really helped the pain issues I was having and I believe following her advice about the ties also made a difference. I can't recommend her enough. I also think it's really great how they take insurance! We met at her office for one visit and she came to my home for another, demonstrating flexibility to meet a mother's needs.

Thank you to Bayou City & especially Karen in the new Conroe office! We had been unsuccessful at latching for 6+ weeks and I was exclusively pumping. Not only did I get fitted properly for the correct flange size & helping with clogs... but we also practiced finishing at the breast a couple times a day. After 3 visits I can with great gratitude say.. I now pump with no discomfort and we are breastfeeding for an entire feeding up to 5x a day now working towards more!!! Thank you for all the tips, advice and encouragement without judgement! Also scheduling with their online app and text communication makes it so much easier!!!

Bayou City Breastfeeding is great. They started helping me over the phone right the way when I called to inquire and schedule the appointment and any time I have a random question I can text them and they reply on the same day. The insurance covers the visit, which is a plus. I chose the home visit and for that I just have to pay the trip charge. They were a life saver and I don’t know if I would have been successful at breastfeeding if it wasn’t for their help. Nicole is amazing and helped me not only with the techniques but also with the whole concept of breastfeeding, bonding and being emotionally well. I absolutely love them and recommend them to all of my friends!!!

Suzanne is an amazing lactation consultant. She has helped guide me with both of my babies. She’s very knowledgeable about all things breastfeeding. She is kind and understanding. She helped build my confidence in my journey and ensured that I would get on track. Both of my babies were tongue and lip tied which hindered their ability to empty the breast. With my first it was undiagnosed for six months and I battled with nipple pain and supply issues as well as low weight gain for my baby. I found Suzanne and an ENT that revised the ties and helped get my daughter back where she needed to be. We continued nursing until she was 16 months. My second came and I knew a little more so I immediately knew she was also tied. Suzanne helped by confirming and advising me what steps to take to protect my supply until there was an opening to get her ties revised. It was a hard few weeks but my supply was good and my second was gaining weight. Suzanne always answered every question and encouraged me through the hard few weeks of nursing, pumping and syringe/bottle feeding. After the revision she really starting putting on the pounds and is doing fantastic. I’m so very thankful that Suzanne helped save both of my nursing journeys. I’ve seen other lactation consultants and she, by far is the most knowledgeable of them all. She is passionate and emphatic and willing to do whatever it takes to help a mother successfully breastfeed her baby.

Karen at Bayou City Breastfeeding is amazing!!! I had a lot of pain the first few weeks and in one (!!) visit with Karen, it improved drastically. She also helped me balance a supply imbalance, learn how to use my pump, taught us how to feed a bottle, and gave lots of mouth exercises to help my baby. At our final visit, she even diagnosed a milk allergy a full month before our pediatrician. I would recommend Karen a million times. We are now at 16 months and still going strong. Thank you, BCB!

I was extremely happy with the experience I had with Ali with Bayou City Breastfeeding! She came to my home in Montgomery, TX to evaluate my 2 week old baby and me. I was having difficulties with breastfeeding, and Ali was able to identify my baby’s issue almost immediately. She helped us come up with a plan to help with the issue, helped me navigate my breast pump, and gave us tips to make our feeding experience as good as possible. Ali was so sweet and made us feel very comfortable- not to mention, very knowledgeable! The communication from start to finish with all the staff was also great! Highly recommend!

Working with Suzanne at Bayou City Breastfeeding saved our breastfeeding journey. Suzanne helped to diagnose a tongue and lip tie in our infant daughter and outlined each of the steps needed to correct the ties. We have seen an improvement in latch, transfer of milk, time spent feeding and so much more.
In addition to the ties, Suzanne helped me as mom to get my milk supply back after it dropped drastically due to a poor latch. Suzanne outlined the steps needed for feedings and pumping, suggested supplements and vitamins to ensure I was giving my body the best chance to produce milk and most importantly was a huge emotional support throughout the process.
I cannot say enough positive things about my experience and would recommend Bayou City Breastfeeding to any mom who is passionate about their breastfeeding journey.

Suzanne has played a key role in the success of my breastfeeding journey. We have seen her for about 6 months now. The 1st time we saw her my baby was lethargic and not eating, she was 3 days old. I had sent a message to Bayou City Breastfeeding and received a response within hours. After speaking with Suzanne on the phone she gave suggestions that immediately helped my baby until we could be seen by her. Suzanne came to our house on Easter Sunday to help get my baby eating. Within a day my baby had gained .5 oz at her 1st pediatrician appointment. Suzanne recommended at that point for us to have the babies tongue clipped for major oral restrictions. At the time my husband and I weren’t ready to put our newborn through that. She gave us oral exercises to do with our baby in the meantime.Fast forward to 3 months my baby refused to latch once again. I scheduled an appointment to see Suzanne at the Kingwood clinic. We learned that my baby had figured out how to accommodate for her oral restrictions, but had had a recent growth spurt and the accommodations and exercises were no longer working. She explained in detail some of the things (I thought were normal) my daughter was experiencing were in fact not so normal and were actually causing pain and discomfort. At that point we revisited the frenotomy and scheduled it with Dr.Liu, a pediatric ENT Bayou City recommends. Suzanne explained the procedure and gave us the recovery booklet to begin to start working on exercises with our baby and prepare her for the procedure. After the procedure we saw Suzanne multiple times for all of our baby’s post procedure appointments and she helped with the recovery. She got our breastfeeding journey back on track. My baby has gone from refusal to latch to nursing full time on the weekends with no issues. The wealth of knowledge that Suzanne provides is so unbelievably helpful and priceless for a first time mom who is beginning to navigate motherhood. She has been constant support and cheerleader to keep going even though it’s tough! I can’t say enough how much help Bayou City Breastfeeding has been!

Tessa Gardin is an amazing LC that helped me through every bump in the road on my 2.5 year breastfeeding journey. I do not hesitate when I say she is knowledgeable in every aspect that has to do with a child's development and how it effects the process of successfully nursing a baby. She was fast to detect my sons Tounge and Lip ties and give a plan of action to correct the wrongs, and helped make sure my son received nothing but the best food for him, his's momma's milk! Tessa is a very personal and will make you feel at ease and positive that you and your baby will be able to achieve any goal you have set!

Suzanne is amazing. I always thought breastfeeding would be so natural and easy but that just wasn’t the case for me. I struggled with my first two kiddos and decided to reach out with my third baby and am so happy I did. Suzanne provided us so much helpful information and even after our appointment she was available to us to answer some questions and I greatly appreciate that. We have our second appointment with her this week. So happy I found Bayou City Breastfeeding!

I had the pleasure of have a virtual lactation consultation with Suzanne. I was grateful that we were able to arrange a virtual consultation to avoid unnecessary visits during COVID 19. She was so helpful, nice and knowledgeable. She answered all of my questions and then some. It was like I was in the office not over the phone. She was able to help identify areas that I was struggling with breastfeeding as well as with bottle feeding. Thank you again Suzanne!

I will try and keep this short because I could write a book on all the help that I received from Suzanne and her team during my breastfeeding challenges. In short after 3 days of life my son due to his tongue and lip ties had destroyed my confidence and physical ability to breastfeed. But thank God we were able to meet with Suzanne on day 4 and after months of work I can happily report that my son is now exclusively breastfeeding. We had to overcome two procedures on his tongue, mastitis, switching from bottle to breast, triple feeding, exclusively pumping for a time, silent reflux and more. On top of some personal and emotional issues as my husband of 6 years left me when I was six months pregnant with our son leaving me as a single mom.Suzanne held my hand through every challenge. She was patience with me when I felt like giving up, strong for me when I thought I had nothing left. It was so important to me to be able to breastfeed my child and she understood that when others did not. Without her I would have given up that first week most likely. There are not enough words of praise that I can give for this woman and her team. If you are struggling to breastfeed this is where you need to turn for your best chance at success. She had been a miracle worker for me and my son and I will always be grateful to her.

We are grateful that Suzanne was able to make a home visit to evaluate my son's lip/tongue tie in the middle of a pandemic. She came highly recommended by our baby doula and our son's dentist's office. First of all, Suzanne understood our worries about COVID-19 and did everything she could to put our minds at ease and to keep us and our baby safe by being transparent about their cleaning protocols and by following very strict home visit protocols (reporting temperatures, masks on, gloves on, social distancing, hand washing, and diligently disinfecting equipments, etc). I would not have put my trust on anyone else to come in to our home at this time. During the visit, she was very thorough in taking my son's history, from birth up until now, and doing a complete physical evaluation from head to toe. Given her background and experience, she was able to identify additional issues quickly and make recommendations in order to avoid invasive procedures in the future. When the issue was not within her scope of practice, she immediately identified pertinent help for us to mitigate the issue. She followed up with us via email and text to make sure our questions were answered. She was extremely efficient, straightforward, and thoughtful, which is exactly the qualities we looked for in healthcare provider. We very much have enjoyed our visit with Suzanne and so did my 13-week old son!

Totally worth it in every way. As a first time mom, I was let go from the hospital with confusing information on how to successfully breast feed. I was emotionally drained and physically exhausted. I highly recommend this company if you feel defeated and don’t know where to turn. They immediately got back to me after leaving a distressed voice mail and quickly scheduled me for a consultation the same week. Would 10/10 recommend.

She is very knowledgeable and patient along with being very passionate and caring. I just wish I had known about her with my first child.

Nicole with Bayou City Breastfeeding provided much needed support to me as a new mom. They facilitated verifying my insurance benefits (BCBS PPO) which did provide coverage for the lactation apts. They billed the cost directly to my insurance which was a big timesaver. I opted to have the consults at my home, so I did have to pay a travel fee, but well worth the convenience with a new baby. The first apt was very thorough, over 2 hours long in which she took a detailed medical history and listened to my concerns. She provided me with a variety of tools and tips to try, with lots of kindness and encouragement. At follow up visits we reviewed different positions, best latch techniques, and a plan for pumping when I returned to work. After each visit I received a detailed email with plan and resources. For any moms with breastfeeding concerns I highly recommend Nicole! With her help my baby was able to drop formula supplementation and is back on 100% breast milk.

Bayou city breastfeeding will be the best decision you will make for you and your baby!

After seeing Suzanne with Bayou city breastfeeding, I truly feel like having an experienced lactation consultant lined up before (or as soon as you can!) you give birth is possibly the most important decision you will make for you and your baby, probably AS important as choosing a pediatrician.

Suzanne managed my baby’s wounds after having tongue/lip tie surgery. She taught me how to do exercises so that his wounds would heal properly and we could avoid needing a revision. She taught me positions for feeding him that helped relieve back pain and tension in both me and my baby post csection and frenectomy. She referred my baby to cst and chiropractics because she noticed that he was holding tension in his body that was preventing him from achieving a good latch and feeding with ease. She showed me how to pump and manage supply effectively, prevent mastitis, and prevent reflux in my baby. After my baby healed post surgery she helped both of us achieve a latch without using a nipple shield. She also would weigh him before and after feeding to make sure he was getting enough milk.

During this time I was extremely stressed and exhausted post csection while taking care of a tired and cranky post surgery baby. Suzanne was SO incredibly kind and understanding and did not lend one hint of judgement when I showed up in mismatched T-shirt’s and sweat pants, barely awake, and not thinking straight.

***She supported me and my baby through the beginning of our breastfeeding experience and made it go from a anxiety filled experience with tears from both me and baby while feeding —> to a SPECIAL and enjoyable bonding time that I get to have with my baby. ***

These positive outcomes are just a FEW of all the things I learned from bayou city breastfeeding. If I did not have Suzanne with bayou city breastfeeding, I would have stopped breastfeeding after two weeks and my baby would not be receiving the nutrition he is now which is so incredibly important amid the pandemic.

I cannot express how much you need one of these experienced lactation consultants in your life!

Suzanne and Bayou City Breastfeeding have been an incredible resource and support to my family as we navigate feeding our newborn. I thought my visit with the lactation specialists at the hospital after my delivery would be sufficient, but the time Suzanne invested in my initial consultation and follow-ups allowed for more in-depth assessment and advising. Her expertise and diligence leaves me feeling fully informed with a plan of action after each visit. I appreciate her approach to address the root cause of feeding issues and form a long term plan, not only quick fixes. Highly recommend, and only wish I would have reached out sooner!

Erica was FANTASTIC. Like, 5 star service for sure. She was personable, knowledgeable, and just all around wonderful. Will definitely call her again when/if I need help. The office .... well ... they’re a hot mess. Booked my appointment, removed it from the calendars, booked it again, lost it again, booked it a 3rd time and that finally stuck. Then they asked me to fill out intake paperwork twice. I paid for the home visit, and they tried to run my card a second time because they somehow couldn’t see that the charge had been processed, applied to my account, and a receipt had been auto-emailed to me? Thankfully my bank caught it as a suspicious charge and wouldn’t let them run it a second time more than a week after the first charge was applied and cleared.Don’t let the train wreck admin situation deter you - again - the visit with Erica was amazing and so very helpful. Just watch the office carefully and make sure you communicate well.

I feel so fortunate to have been referred to Suzanne by a friend. I was hesitant in reaching out initially since we are formula/bottle feeding, but, I am so glad I did!Suzanne is very professional and personable, and ensures you and your baby are comfortable throughout the session. She was not only non-judgemental regarding formula feeding but very supportive. She is so knowledgeable about absolutely everything that goes into infants feeding from the mechanics and physiology to the psychological aspects. She keeps YOUR goals in mind and not only instructs on techniques but actually allows you to practice with guidance. We even went over my scheduled session time because she wanted to be sure to answer all of my questions and that I felt confident in the exercises we had worked on.After literally one day of using some new techniques and exercises learned in my first session, my baby is significantly more comfortable and we’re both more relaxed while feeding.I saw Suzanne to assess my baby’s colicky symptoms but left with a wealth of priceless knowledge and empowerment. I would absolutely recommend Suzanne for not only mothers who are breastfeeding but for any mother who has questions or concerns about their baby’s feeding.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Suzanne at Bayou City Breastfeeding. As a mother who successfully breastfed her first child 18 months, I thought I knew everything I needed to for my second......boy was I wrong! We were blessed to find Suzanne who was prompt, courteous and caring. She figured out some tough problems and pointed me in the direction of professionals that could help us out with a more natural approach to tongue tie issues and even a dietician to help with a restricted diet. She was always available to help and went above and beyond to ensure baby and I were both thriving. You really can’t go wrong with Suzanne!

Working with Suzanne at Bayou City Breastfeeding saved our breastfeeding journey. Suzanne helped to diagnose a tongue and lip tie in our infant daughter and outlined each of the steps needed to correct the ties. We have seen an improvement in latch, transfer of milk, time spent feeding and so much more.In addition to the ties, Suzanne helped me as mom to get my milk supply back after it dropped drastically due to a poor latch. Suzanne outlined the steps needed for feedings and pumping, suggested supplements and vitamins to ensure I was giving my body the best chance to produce milk and most importantly was a huge emotional support throughout the process.I cannot say enough positive things about my experience and would recommend Bayou City Breastfeeding to any mom who is passionate about their breastfeeding journey.

I am so grateful for Bayou City LC! I was having major pain from what I thought was a clogged duct. Even though it was a Sunday they called me and it turned out I have mastitis. I was able to have the consultation with Suzanne for recommendations, meet with my doctor and get a prescription all within 2 hours. ON A SUNDAY! They are genuinely caring and there to help. I don't know what I would do without them. Biggest thanks to Amanda for getting me on the books and Suzanne for taking time with me on a weekend. Suzanne was wonderful!!! Her amazing help allowed my daughter to breastfeed successfully, and after an initial scare of too much weight loss, she is now healthy, happy and gaining weight! Suzanne was attentive, caring, professional, and provided specific steps to improve the breastfeeding dynamic, including exercises for my daughter to allow her to increase her mouth's range of motion, as well as guidelines for pumping (increase supply for me), and using a nipple guard, as well as how to wean off of it later. 1.5 months later, after 3 consultations with her we are all doing great and breastfeeding without the nipple shield! I am on my third baby and all of them have had tongue ties and lip ties. It wasn’t an easy process at all. The dentist that did my second daughters tongue tie reversion did a great job with giving me information and how it effects everything your body does but there was no work a head of time and only 1 follow up appointment. Because of COVID I didn’t know what to do about my baby boy hurting me while nursing. A friend told me to look at bayou city breastfeeding so I made an appointment and man has it changed my life! Not only do they take insurance which is amazing, but the knowledge that they have is abundant! Also it is so so easy to get in contact because you can text at anytime and you will receive a response pretty quick! If all that wasn’t enough they are there for every step of the way to make sure you are ready for the procedure to going with you to the appointment and then follow ups! I truly am so thankful for bayou city breastfeeding. They help you with way more then just getting your child to latch properly! They want both the baby and mother are happy and healthy. I would refer anyone and everyone to them!

I had a terrible time starting out with my older child. My milk didn't come in, she had a tongue tie, and didn't end up latching until she was nine weeks old.Suzanne guided us through it all, and we could not have made it without her. She helped me determine when the baby was and wasn't getting enough milk, helped me figure out pumping, and helped me to get her to latch. At one point I thought I simply couldn't breastfeed. Suzanne helped me not only breastfeed, but sail passed my initial goal.To say I couldn't have done it without her would be an understatement. She is both knowledgeable and compassionate. I would send any new mother needing breastfeeding help to Suzanne.

I had a great experience with my lactation consultant Erica. She helped me to deepen my baby’s latch and also gave me tips and exercises to do for his mouth. I would definitely recommend this company! They have an amazing grant program that helps make the services more affordable to reach more families in need. They are also available anytime if you have any questions. If there are any moms out there in need of breastfeeding assistance, I’d definitely make an appointment!

Suzanne at Bayou City Breastfeeding was such a huge help! My daughter and I struggled with breastfeeding, and I didn't know the first thing about pumping! Suzanne found out that my daughter had slight lip and tongue ties and showed us a few positions (one that I had never even heard of!) that actually worked for us! She gave us exercises to help my daughter with her latching (not to mention introducing me to baby squats- a great way to calm down my fussy daughter!). She also helped me realize that number of pumps a day (and NOT the duration...boy was she surprised when I confessed I regularly pumped for an hour!) was the most important thing for establishing a supply. I struggled with an under supply and had to supplement with formula for the first 2 months. Suzanne never once made me feel bad about supplementing with formula, or deciding that pumping worked better for us than strictly breastfeeding. Now I am proud to say I have a freezer stash that could last my daughter 3 weeks! Thank you so much Suzanne- we truly would not be where we are today without your guidance!

I contacted Bayou City Breastfeeding out of desperation after suffering weeks of painful breastfeeding with my second child. With my first baby (breastfed for 14 months) I had no issues breastfeeding so I thought it would be the same the second time around. Nope! From the second day after my son was born I was having serious issues with nursing and I was not enjoying breastfeeding at all. The nurses in the hospital kept telling me I was a new mom and things would get better. Because of this I waited before getting help with a lactation consultant. During this time my son had reflux, gas, milk was spilling out the sides of his mouth with every feeding, and I was using a nipple shield at every feeding because of pain. Also, the nursing sessions took FOREVER (45+ minutes). A friend suggested I see Tessa, an IBCLC at Bayou City Breastfeeding, because of all the issues. Tessa came to my house and diagnosed my son with a tongue tie almost instantly. I remember tearing up after she left because I finally had answers. None of the other nurses or lactation consultants in the hospital even mentioned it could potentially be a tongue tie even after all the pain I was in. Tessa took her time with me and was very patient with all the questions I had (and I had a lot). Her exam of the baby was very thorough and she explained everything in a way I could understand. She gave me recommendations on who to see for my son’s tongue tie and gave me exercises to do with him to help with breastfeeding. Honestly if it wasn’t for Tessa there is no way I would have continued breastfeeding. I was literally on the verge of quitting. With her help I was able to continue breastfeeding for 15 months and my baby boy is thriving.

My LC was Susanne Jules and she was amazing. It was my first time breastfeeding and it was so difficult!! She reassured me that I was doing fine and gave me very helpful tips. She was very knowledgeable and kind. If I had questions, she was easy to reach. If it wasn’t for her, I’m not sure my experience with breastfeeding would have been pleasant. I definitely recommend her if you’re frustrated and freaked out like I was! I am definitely very grateful that another LC recommended her while I was desperately searching for one. Thank you!!

Without the support, patience, and knowledge of Suzanne Juel, our breastfeeding journey would have been over within a month. Suzanne’s expertise and education of ties is beyond the normal IBCLC. Our post-revision struggles were more than I would have imagined, and she was there for us every step of the way to encourage and educate me on what was happening and how to work through it.

I made it 16.5 months nursing my baby girl, and I owe the majority of the credit to Suzanne. I couldn’t be more thankful for the support I received from her during the hardest times of my postpartum journey, and the support I continue to receive from her, even after the visits stopped. Thank you, Bayou City Breastfeeding, for allowing me to build the exceptional bond I have with my baby girl now, thanks to nursing.

I had no real trouble breastfeeding my first child, so when my second hit 4 weeks old and I was still in pain while nursing, and he needed to feed around the clock, I knew something was wrong. I looked for a lactation consultant who took my insurance (Aetna) and found Bayou City Breastfeeding. Kingwood was a bit of a drive, but my visit with Karen was well worth it! She was so easy to talk to and she helped me help my son to latch better, and showed me some exercises I can do for him to loosen his muscles. She also looked him over and was able to recommend a great ENT for me to take him to for a possible tongue and lip tie which I have now had revised. My son is feeding so much better now! I’m no longer in pain, and can see that he’s having an easier time getting what he needs out of each feed. If you feel at all like something isn’t right with your breastfeeding experience, definitely make an appointment with Bayou City. You’ll be in a comfortable setting where all your questions can be answered and your mind can be put at ease.

Highly highly recommend this group for anyone needing help with breastfeeding. When I called to make an appointment, I was abt two days from throwing in the towel on breastfeeding. Being a first time mom, I was told by all of the other LCs that my latch looked good and I was fine even though I was in a lot of pain prior to calling bayou city. Britni was able to come in and quickly show me how to adjust things to be more comfortable for me and for baby. After helping me with latching, it was like night and day difference. I was more confident and comfortable, and the difference was instant. Not only did she help me with breastfeeding, but she also helped with my pump flange sizing, and showed my husband additional tips for bottle feeding, nothing felt rushed or dismissive, and I truly appreciated she was working around what worked for our life style, whether that was bf, bottles or both. I cannot recommend them and their team enough! My only regret was I didn’t have them come out prenatal as well!

Was easy to schedule with Bayou City Breastfeeding after calling them and they quickly confirmed insurance coverage. I met with Anne for a few visits. Some of her advice/tips were great and others good but not realistic for me or the way I'd want to nurse. But that's ok, I took the advice I felt to work for me. She was so nice to return my calls and be a support a few times when I had a difficult time at home with the nursing. Facility is nice and they have a good weight machine for the newborn.

If it weren't for Suzanne's help I would not have been able to breastfeed my son. She turned a horrible experience into a success. When I had my daughter, I knew one of my first appointments after being released for the hospital needed to be with Suzanne, she helped me start off strong and I had a great breastfeeding experience. I just had my second daughter and because of the coaching Suzanne gave with my first 2 I felt confident about breastfeeding and have had no issues. I am so grateful for Suzanne. If I wouldn't have found her, I know I wouldn't have been able to nurse my children.

Suzanne has been beyond helpful. I absolutely love her and look forward to every appointment. When my daughter was born I knew she had at least a tongue tie. I told our (now previous) pediatrician and she told me my daughter didn’t have any ties. I went to a pediatric dentist who also said no ties. When I went to see Suzanne, she said there were 3 ties that needed revisions. We’re still seeing Suzanne regularly for follow up appointments regarding the revisions and she’s been so amazing and patient. I absolutely recommend Bayou City Breastfeeding to anyone!

Suzanne was a tremendous help to me and my daughter while breastfeeding. She helped identify potential issues (inefficient eater and low milk supply) and worked with me to create practical solutions. She wants to create personalized solutions that work with the mother so not drive mothers crazy (since breastfeeding is hard enough 🙂 ). I would recommend anyone breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed to work with Suzanne!

After a disheartening 6 month check up revealed my little man was still not gaining weight (although he was breastfeeding 8-10 times a day), I knew I needed some wisdom and guidance from a specialist. Suzanne performed a mouth assessment first thing and pointed out our son's tongue tie - much to our surprise as he had tongue tie surgery at 5 days old! While it was frustrating to learn that his tongue tie had not been performed completely or it had reattached (something our first doctor did not warn us about or even mention being a possibility), it was so great to figure out what the issue was. He was eating plenty of times a day, but was not eating as efficiently has he should've been. Suzanne's knowledge and guidance through a second tongue tie procedure and recovery process (much more involved second time around) was vital! My supply also tanked at this time and she got me on a plan to get it back up. It wasn't easy, but she was realistic and encouraging and provided the structure and education I needed to make it happen. Happy to report our little man has the cutest of rolls, back on the charts, growing like a weed and I was able to stick with my goal of breastfeeding for at least one year (which at one point was looking super grim!) So so thankful for Suzanne's help, accessibility and coaching through one of the hardest stretches of motherhood to date. Even if you're not having any major issues, I highly recommend meeting with a lactation consultant! The education, tips and tricks are invaluable! Thank you thank you thank you!

I’m so glad we chose Bayou City Breastfeeding to take our son to. He had a hard time latching to the breast and would choke while drinking from a bottle. We booked with Suzanne and she discovered he had 4 ties in his mouth! He also needed some body work and recommended us to a chiropractor which was a great choice! He improved off that alone, but still needed his ties done. We had the ties done and Suzanne was very informative and supportive as she always was at every appointment. The procedure was quick but I’m thankful Suzanne was there for the support! I would recommend this business to any mother struggling with a baby who has issues feeding! Definitely let them check your baby out!!

Ali Flores & Suzanne were both extremely helpful. My 10 day old baby boy was not gaining weight like he should. Suzanne recognized this through a virtual appointment and recommended that we come in for an office visit. Ali met with us last minute, evaluated him/us and crafted a plan of action to help get him back on track to gain the needed weight prior to his next pediatrician weigh in. Ali was very thorough and informative. I left feeling equipped to feed sufficiently, armed with the knowledge of how to increase my milk supply going forward. Thank you both truly for your help and expertise.

Breastfeeding was an incredibly difficult journey for me from the very first day but Suzanne made me feel like I got this!. I lost a lot of my supply after the first two weeks which she helped me regain pretty quickly with all the tips and tricks, which were hard and a lot of work but they worked!. My daughter was never able to latch successfully on a constant basis, it was more of a hit and miss dependent on a million things that were out of my control. Suzanne was able to advice me even over text when I had to move abroad. In total I was able to breastfeed (mostly pump during the day and breastfeed at night because of my stubborn baby) for 6 months and give her frozen breast milk for another two. This really was a blessing for her immune system because after the first year of life were she had a few viral infections she never again (she is 2 now) had any illness. It seems like her system really did benefit from all the hard work I put in!. What I liked most about Suzanne was that she never judged me, she never pressured me or told me there is only one way or the highway. She set realistic expectations and told me that every day that I breastfeed is a win for my daughter but if I can’t, if I need to supplement then it’s also OK and that I should do what I can not what I’m supposed to do.
Thank you for all your teachings! I’ll definitely be back if I have baby Nr.2!

After the birth of my first child in 2018 I naively thought that my child and I would know how to breastfeed and it would come naturally. Well the first month of his life he struggled to gain weight. So I looked for a lactation consultant covered by Aetna and found Bayou City Breastfeeding. I was consulted by Tessa Gardin. Looking back I wish I would have found Tessa sooner because she provided so much useful information. She is the reason I took my son to a chiropractor for cranio sacral adjustments and he was able to latch better. She is also the reason my milk output doubled and I was able to breastfeed until 11 months. After my second child was born on July 2020 I knew that I needed appointments with an LC right away. My daughter struggled with latch on my left breast, was biting my nipples and preferred to turn her head to her left side. So I saw Suzanne Juel 3 days after the birth. Suzanne is equally as helpful as Tessa and provided a lot of educational resources and diagrams that illustrated breastfeeding, milk production, and foods that increase milk supply. Suzanne showed me some alternate feeding positions that I use now since they are more comfortable. Suzanne recommended that my daughter get chiropractic adjustments. I took my daughter to a chiropractor and the adjustments improved her alignment significantly. Now my daughter does not have any latch issues, she is able to remove all the milk out on her own and she is no longer biting. She has exceeded the required weight gain for her age.

Incredible. I am a first time mom and I probably would not have made it this far without my lactation consultant, Ali. I don’t know if all women struggle the way I have, but even if there isn’t a physical issue the emotional and mental support she provided was worth it. If you don’t have insurance try to save enough to pay for a consultation or ask family/friend for financial support to pay for it. It is rather affordable. If those aren’t options reach out to me and I will help you. That’s how beneficial and helpful this company is. You can do this! But sometimes a little help makes It easier. They definitely make it easier!

I, perhaps Naively, didn’t plan to have problems with breastfeeding and so didn’t have any apts set up with a lactation consultant when we got back from the hospital. When I contact BCB, there were not a lot of apts available, but when they heard my story they shifted things and tried to get me in ASAP. I am so grateful for that sense of urgency they had for my breastfeeding journey. Mary is so kind and caring and has approached my low-supply challenge with a lot of data and science that will help. She is also very attuned to stress and keeping a plan flexible and manageable for mom. We’ve really enjoyed working with her. She is very responsive and easily accessible by text, helping me with on-the-fly questions. In addition, when you work with Bayou City Breastfeeding, you’re actually getting access to multiple lactation experts as they all consult with each other for different solutions for their clients. This gives you a whole pool of knowledge and experience to work in your favor for results.

Bayou City Breastfeeding was recommended to us by the lactation consultant at the hospital. Suzanne has a passion for what she does and made a home visit during the pandemic when everything was shut down. Our son was losing weight, didn’t have a good latch, and I was having issues with my milk production. She is very knowledgeable and diligently worked with me. No question was ever stupid to her. Our son quickly regained weight, had a tongue-tie addressed, and I was able to increase my milk. It wasn’t a full milk supply due to my underlying health issue, but Suzanne was very supportive. Thank you, Suzanne!

When I called Suzanne the day my daughter was born because I was concerned she might have a tongue tie, Suzanne was quick to find someone in my area who could make a home visit...and she was able to come over that evening! When Suzanne found out I didn’t have insurance she offered to let me apply for their grant which greatly reduced the financial burden and allowed me to get the immediate help I needed to get us on the right track for breastfeeding. Mary was our lactation consultant and she has been a God-send. She is so experienced and knowledgeable about breastfeeding, lip and tongue ties and she is always so encouraging! She took her time with each appointment we had with her. I wanted to avoid giving my babe the bottle and she helped us navigate our breastfeeding journey in a way that helped us stay on the right track...getting my babe the nourishment she needed while keeping her at the breast as much as possible...all without introducing the bottle. Mary was always checking in on us between appointments through text and phone calls. Because of Mary’s incredible support my babe is very close to being weaned off the supplementation and completely exclusively breastfeeding!

Visited with my daughter about 2 weeks after she was born. Setting the appointment was easy as they would just text my phone which was best for me with a newborn. I was so happy that I went. I left feeling reassured that my baby was getting enough to eat and my production was adequate and coming along. I felt totally comfortable and at home with the consultant even though I am a pretty modest person. She was very kind and reassuring and gentle with my baby. She gave me some great advice, taught me some great exercises I could help my baby practice and gave me some great referrals to have a lip and tongue tie evaluated. I will probably set up a follow up consult here soon now that the lip and tongue tie have been evaluated to make sure my babies latch is the best latch.

My baby girl was revised a little after she was 2 weeks old. I could pump about half an ounce. From both sides. She was formula fed except for what little I could pump. After triple feeding, renting a hospital grade pump, trying supplements and so so so much more we are now only breastfeeding!! She will be 4 months old in a week. Tessa was such an encouragement as she worked with us, and I was always able to contact her if I needed help outside our visits. We are beyond thankful for Tessa for helping us get here!

Had a home visit during COVID...the LC that came was wearing a mask and was disinfecting everything which was a bonus! She corrected my baby’s latch in the first try and it was a game changer! I didn’t realize I wasn’t doing it right! She gave me some exercises to help with my baby’s minor tongue tie which I appreciated vs going straight to the operation route. We are 7 weeks now and things are great! Baby’s latch is strong and she is gaining weight. I was hating breast feeding before...now I’m loving it!

I've been working with Karen for 5 months now. She has been truly exceptional. She has idea galore, tips and tricks I've never heard (this is my 3rd kiddo) and sage, wise advice. I'm not sure if we would still be breastfeeding without her. She is a gem. I would absolutely recommend Karen and Bayou City Breastfeeding. Without a doubt!!

Suzanne Juel is a knowledgeable, kind, and enthusiastic IBCLC. I met her at Dr. Liu's office in March of 2016. She has a heart for mothers, especially those wanting desperately to breastfeed, and uses her own valuable personal experience and extensive education to comfort, educate, and help new families. I wholeheartedly recommend her services.

Suzanne has been a lifesaver - taking the time to listen to my frustrations, advocating for my health & well-being to my physicians when she noticed problems, guiding us through all our hurdles, and supporting/educating me no matter what my decisions through my breastfeeding journey. Without her, I don’t know where we’d be. My only wish is we would’ve started working with her sooner - thanks for all you’ve done!

Bayou city breastfeeding will be the best decision you will make for you and your baby! After seeing Suzanne with Bayou city breastfeeding, I truly feel like having an experienced lactation consultant lined up before (or as soon as you can!) you give birth is possibly the most important decision you will make for you and your baby, probably AS important as choosing a pediatrician.Suzanne managed my baby’s wounds after having tongue/lip tie surgery. She also would weigh him before and after feeding to make sure he was getting enough milk.During this time I was extremely stressed and exhausted post csection while taking care of a tired and cranky post surgery baby. Suzanne was SO incredibly kind and understanding and did not lend one hint of judgement when I showed up in mismatched T-shirt’s and sweat pants, barely awake, and not thinking straight.***She supported me and my baby through the beginning of our breastfeeding experience and made it go from a anxiety filled experience with tears from both me and baby while feeding —> to a SPECIAL and enjoyable bonding time that I get to have with my baby. ***These positive outcomes are just a FEW of all the things I learned from bayou city breastfeeding. If I did not have Suzanne with bayou city breastfeeding, I would have stopped breastfeeding after two weeks and my baby would not be receiving the nutrition he is now which is so incredibly important amid the pandemic.I cannot express how much you need one of these experienced lactation consultants in your life!

I could not be happier with my experience with BCBLC. Breastfeeding is hard and on top of that we had to deal with NICU, tongue and lip ties and low breast milk supply. Suzanne has been there for us every step of the way. She is very knowledgeable and works with you to make sure you meet your own goals whether they may be exclusively breastfeeding or exclusively pumping or a mix of BM and formula. She is always available over phone or text and she is very professional. At every meeting she provides specific and manageable goals which she documents in a document that she makes available at the end of the session. Over the years she has built a great network of dentists, chiropractors, nutritionists, pediatricians so she is also able to provide good recommendations whenever needed. I would definitely recommend her to any new mama.

I had my daughter at 32 weeks. My daughter wasn’t able to breastfeed on her own so, I decided to call in a lactation. Suzanne was sooo helpful! She quickly identified the issue (lip/tongue tie). In the meantime I got support, advice and tips on how to helo her feed until she got her toes corrected.Once my daughter got her 2 month vaccines she was able to get it checked out by her dentist and got it fixed. I continued going to Suzanne until we graduated! 6 months later, and my daughter is now a pro!*One more thing, I got so much help for when I went back to work as far as how long, and how often I should pump. Suzanne also went out her way to fight for my pumping rights during work hours.

Suzanne is wonderful. I had a lot of trauma related to becoming a mother, a lot of trauma from having to be induced and my son having to spend time in nicu, and a lot of fear of failure as a mom. she empowered me to make decisions, to build a healthy nursing relationship with my son, and continue breastfeeding beyond my minimum goal of a year. I don't think I could have done it without her-no judgment-meet you where you are- attitude and encouragement. My son overcame his tongue tie and gain issues and is a strong, healthy, taller than average, 2 year old.
Suzanne is amazing. I always thought breastfeeding would be so natural and easy but that just wasn't the case for me. I struggled with my first two kiddos...

People like Suzanne are true angels on Earth . I nursed my first child for 20 months no issue .. no issues with the bottle or anything . So when all of a sudden I had trouble with second child not taking a bottle I had no idea what to do and no idea how I would go back to work without my mother or anyone else being able to feed her .My mom tired ... my husband tried ... we tried different bottles and and we just couldn't get her to take it for weeks.Well Suzanne got right to the core of the issue and showed us exactly how to feed her and what exercise we could do to help ! She was an absolute wealth of knowledge . Very patient and very kind .Suzanne I can't thank you enough 🙂 !

I am SO thankful we found Bayou City Breastfeeding. Coming home from the hospital with my little one, I knew we'd need some assistance. I reached out to BCB and they not only offered to help, but a home visit was available (which made this new Momma feel so much better). Ms. Karen has been SO GREAT, she has made me feel comfortable with the process and confident in myself. She has been full of knowledge and I can't imagine this time without that guidance. I will always recommend seeking a professional to my friends. Specifically BCB and Ms. Karen. What your Lactation Consultants do is SO important !!! Thank You !!!

My 4 month old and I are extremely grateful for all the information and training we received from a home visit with Tiphany. Thanks to her, we are now on the right path to addressing some serious lip, tongue and buccal ties! In turn my babe will drastically reduce her risks of oral malformations as she develops during her childhood years. And of course improve her ability to take a bottle, which was the original reason for our visit! Thank you Tiphany!!

Bayou City saved my breastfeeding journey. I successfully breastfed my son with little to no problems. So when I had my daughter and was struggling with breastfeeding her I was frustrated to the point of giving up. My friend mentioned Bayou City Breastfeeding and so I made an appointment. At that appointment Suzanne mentioned that we may be dealing with a tongue tie and suggested I see someone to have it revised. Suzanne taught me the exercises to help my daughter heal and checked her wound site frequently to make sure she was healing appropriately. Suzanne was with me every step of the way and available to answer any questions I had. We are now feeding much better and spitting up less. My daughter is so much happier and so am I!

After having my second child I decided I wanted to give breastfeeding another shot with an unsuccessful first attempt. Suzzane Juel was really patient and knowledgeable on all my questions and concerns, at the time I called I was nearly ready to give up with all the pain and engorment but she helped me to see the light at the end of the tunnel and she always checks on the baby and I and when I need help or advice she's a huge help. I cannot recommend seeing Suzanne enough. After struggling with long nursing sessions for several weeks after our daughter was born, Suzanne was the only professional we saw that was able to tell us our daughter had tongue and several lip ties. Not only was Suzanne able to find the source of our struggles, she was also very efficient at helping us create a plan to help our daughter and I nurse more successfully. I am extremely grateful to have her experience and expertise as I navigate being a first time mom and grow in my breastfeeding journey. I can’t recommend her and Bayou City Breastfeeding enough if you are struggling with feeding (breast or not) difficulties. They are organized from the top down and invested in patient success and comfort. My daughter has been struggling with breastfeeding in many ways. Brandy identified and recommended an assessment with an ENT to where my daughter had lip, tongue, and cheek ties at 9 weeks old. She has been encouraging us every step of the way and provided assistance with her oral exercise program, homeopathic pain remedy, and being present at the procedure. I have worked with Suzanne after both of my pregnancies with my boys and could not have made it without her! After seeing six different lactation consultants with no successful resolutions to my myriad of breastfeeding issues, Suzanne was a true blessing in every way once I was under her care! She helped identify that both my boys had lip and tongue ties in which we corrected. The corrections helped resolve some issues but it was with Suzanne's compassion, expertise, and never ending support that I was able to successfully nurse my first boy to 14 months and am currently 5 months in with my second baby. I have/had extreme oversupply issues, clogged ducts, thrush, mastitis and every imaginable obstacle occur in my nursing journey. In addition to that, my oldest son had feeding difficulties and would not latch or take a bottle. Suzanne outlined a plan of care for me and my boys, took the time to listen to my concerns, and answered all questions along the way. Within that plan, I worked with a couple speech pathologists and chiropractic to help address my son’s issues. We worked for months together through it all and it wasn't until month 9 that we were able to successfully get him on a bottle! I owe all that I've learned and my nursing journey to her help and support. I highly recommend Suzanne to any mothers in need of help with breastfeeding. I cannot say enough great things about Suzanne. When our second child was 5 weeks old she began struggling when nursing and started to refuse the bottle. All other medical professionals we sought guidance from assured us that she was just being stubborn. Suzanne was the only medical professional that listened to our concerns and was able to steer us in the right direction for addressing a lip and tongue tight. She also assisted us in bottle training our daughter and helping her to overcome an oral aversion. She is extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. She always goes above and beyond to help. I am a first time mom with no family in town and working with Nicole to help my 3.5 week early baby breastfeed was nothing short of a miracle in my eyes. In the hospital the consultants seemed to blame my sons lack of ability to breastfeed on his prematurity and their tactics didn’t help my situation so I went outside the hospital resources and found Bayou City Breastfeeding. Scheduling was super easy. I learned new techniques and Nicole was very patient and understanding of all my questions. We ending up needing a tongue and lip tie procedure, but after 2 months we were exclusively breastfeeding which was my choice. I can say without Nicole’s help I would have given up breastfeeding earlier than I wanted. It required work and Nicole supported my journey.

We are so thankful for Tessa & Suzanne! They are the reason my son is breastfeeding at 4 months. We are told breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world. Yet when it doesn’t come naturally to you (I don’t think it does to anyone to be honest), we can feel an immense sense of fret and failure. Then the pressure to give up seeps in. That’s where I was the day I found Suzanne. Exhausted at home with a 7 day old I couldn’t comfort enough. Suzanne taught me everything I know about nursing. More importantly she taught me to find the confidence in myself and to trust my body. I went on to nurse my first for 17 months and then a second for 17 months. I worked full time and successfully pumped more than enough for my babies. Neither ever had a drop of formula. Your body can do this. You just may need help. Our society does not teach women this skill. Thank God for Suzanne and others like her.

I will be forever grateful to Nicole Kerbow for showing up at my door steps in the moment of my complete desperation. After our pediatrician told us that our baby had a tongue tie and he wasn’t able to breastfeed as normal - which caused a good amount of weight loss in 2 days - we were advised to call our lactation consultant asap. We called Nicole! And she was there for us with her “world of knowledge” about breastfeeding as well as anything and everything baby related.Just imagine being a first time mom, trying figure things out, failing at it ... even though you felt like you’ve read everything there is to know. I absolutely cannot say enough good things about Suzanne. I came to her on referral from my baby's chiropractor and it has been the best thing we have ever done. My 5 month old has been struggling to gain weight and suffering from silent reflux. Suzanne also identified lio, tongue, and cheek ties as well as a high palate contributing to the feeding issues. From day one she dug in determining to help us. We have massage exercises to work on the ties gently, we identified some different nursing positions to help reduce colic and facilitate a deeper latch, and started some natural healing for the reflux. She has been so helpful in ensuring our breastfeeding journey continues, It hasn't been without setbacks since my baby has such deep issues but she has been with us every step of the way creating a plan to make sure we are supported in every way possible. Olivia is continuing to improve daily and for that I am super grateful. Honestly, I was skeptical because the hospital lactation consultants were no help and very dismissive. Not so here! I am amazed how supported I feel and hope has returned that we will be able to successfully continue breastfeeding. Mama, if you're struggling, put away the guilt and come get help! You will be so glad you did.

I feel like my daughter’s life will be completely enhanced by what I learned today!!

Suzanne is amazing. She helped me so much as a first time mom. I highly recommend Bayou City Breastfeeding for any mom who’s planning to breastfeed. (Husbands are welcome too.) She is very knowledgeable in many different topics and this experience has made all the difference in my breastfeeding journey and it’s completely covered by my Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance.

We have made so much progress thanks to Karen! I started out with low supply and a tongue tied baby who was not gaining enough weight. It has been a multi month journey of LCs, PTs, ENTs and pediatric dentists. Karen’s help was instrumental in building and establishing my supply as well as improving latch and transfer. Do not wait to address feeding issues. The in home visits have been game changing - much more effective than the hour long appointments at the hospital or pediatrician’s office. In addition to being a wealth of information and support on breastfeeding, Karen also provided physical therapy exercises for us to do between sessions to help with breastfeeding.Karen is also a wealth of information about parenting having 3 kids of her own and is very sympathetic to the realities of being a busy mom. She is always patient and makes sure our questions are fully answered. Highly responsive through the bayou city breastfeeding messaging portal between sessions.

Suzanne is an angel on earth. She isn’t just an IBCLC, she’s family. My little one and I came to her after a botched surgery with nothing but problems. I also suffer from some mood disorders. I’ll never forget Suzanne telling me I needed to take care of myself so I could take care of my little. I had gone off my medication because I didn’t want it to affect her. Turns out that decision was negatively affecting me.Then my little needed to have surgery again. Suzanne came with us and supported me the whole time. She checked on us multiple times. She made sure D was okay.Suzanne referred us to an amazing body worker who then helped all of Ds body issues. She’s even helped my mom with a ton of health issues.Just all around Suzanne is my hero. Our breastfeeding journey didn’t go at all like I had planned and it ended earlier than I wanted but Suzanne continues to be an amazing pillar of support. She showed me that it’s important to have a village. It’s important to have someone with so much knowledge cheering you on! And when it doesn’t go as planned, letting you know that you’re an amazing mom and it’s okay. 💗

Suzanne has been immensely helpful for both of my children. I would not have been able to breastfeed my firstborn without her depth of knowledge, patience, and connections to other providers in the greater Houston area and knowledge as to which providers would be most skilled in working with the specific needs we had. She was even able to help us identify some non-breastfeeding medical issues that we were able to address early in my son’s life because of her wide base of knowledge and attentiveness. Beyond breastfeeding, she was also able to help us create a plan for introducing solids that was tailored to helping us avoid the abundant food allergies that are prevalent in our family. I am confident that our children’s health will be better long-term on multiple fronts as a result of the guidance we received from Suzanne.

Suzanne literally saved me from another round of postpartum depression. With my fourth little girl breastfeeding was nothing but hard. Suzanne taught me that her services were more than just breast related. After a horrible first surgery which set us back tremendously Suzanne found us an amazing team to help my little toot become more successful at just eating and swallowing. It didn’t matter how we accomplished that.Suzanne then became family. She’s one of the closest people to my heart. She let me know that not only was it safe, but necessary that I take my medication. That taking it would help my daughters and my bond. Which was so true. Suzanne is an angel on Earth. God blessed me huge when he lead me to Suzanne.

I first used Suzanne three years ago when I had my first daughter. She helped diagnose tongue tie and helped me be successful with breast-feeding when I was ready to quit. I just had twin babies in November and was worried about having enough milk supply. I struggled with it with my first one. She recommended good supplements and helped tremendously during her visits with lots of tips and techniques to make it work. Suzanne is super professional and definitely know what she's doing! I recommend her to anyone who is having a baby. My twin babies are 4 1/2 months old and are super healthy, chunky, happy babies! Thanks for your help!

It’s the best gift I’ve ever been given! I’m constantly learning something new from her, and she’s been the most amazing resource. She’s so knowledgeable and amazing at what she does.I get excited for appointments! We thoroughly enjoy our time being with her and learning from her.
