How Will Bodywork Help My Baby?

A baby during an infant bodywork session.

Chiropractic care for infants can offer several potential benefits, including:

  1. Facilitating optimal breastfeeding: Infants who have difficulties when nursing can benefit from chiropractic care. Misalignments or tension in the spine or jaw can interfere with proper latch and feeding biomechanics. Chiropractic adjustments can help correct misalignments and tension, making breastfeeding more comfortable and efficient for everyone involved.
  2. Alleviating discomfort: Infants may feel discomfort due to issues like reflux, gas, or nursing difficulty, sometimes linked to spinal misalignments. Chiropractic care can help relieve tension in the spine and nervous system, reducing these symptoms and easing the infant’s comfort.
  3. Improving sleep and digestion: Some infants struggle with sleep and digestion due to discomfort or nervous system imbalances, like being stuck in “fight or flight” mode. Chiropractic adjustments can help bring babies from “fight or flight” mode to a “rest and digest” mode. “Rest and digest” is a nervous system response that helps the body relax and recover.
  4. Supporting overall healthy development and wellness: The birthing process, whether natural or via C-section, can subject an infant’s delicate spine and neck to stress. By addressing any spinal misalignments or imbalances early on, chiropractors aim to support the infant’s natural ability to heal and develop.

It’s essential to choose a chiropractor who specializes in pediatric care and has experience working with infants. Our chiropractors are all members of the ICPA, the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, also have completed Webster training. For more information of specific certifications, please take a look at the bios of the chiropractors in our practice (Dr. Emily Egan, DC, Dr. Lyndsay Ritchley, DC, Dr. Chelsea Tyree, DC).
