Description
Purchase both an organic castor oil and wool flannel castor oil packs and follow the directions below to create a compress.
Castor oil has been used to help draw out infection, reduce inflammation and encourage lymphatic drainage. When you have a plugged duct or mastitis, you get significant inflammation of the breast. It can be used as needed and is especially helpful at clearing stubborn plugged ducts.
· Use a high-quality, cold-pressed organic Castor oil.
· Take a wool flannel cloth or wash cloth sized to cover the area, folded over a few times.
· Saturate the cloth with Castor oil and warm in microwave (beware of hot spots-wring it out so that it remains wet but not dripping, the cloth should be warm, but not hot enough to burn.)
· Apply the cloth to the plugged or painful area of the breast.
· Cover with Saran wrap and then apply medium heat for 20 minutes.
· After treatment, rinse the breast so the baby does not ingest the castor oil, then pump or feed the baby while massaging the breast.
· Repeat treatment 2-3 times a day, we typically see improvement within 24 hours.
· The cloth can be reused several times. Place it in a Ziploc bag for future use. No need to wash. It can be used as is up to 30 times or within 2 weeks. If it dries out, more castor oil can be added.
