Pathway 3 Internship Program
Our Pathway 3 Internship Program is designed for individuals pursuing IBCLC certification through Pathway 3, as outlined by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®). This program offers mentorship and hands-on clinical experience, preparing interns to become integral members of our team upon certification.
Program Details:
- The program takes 12-24 months to complete, with a minimum of 500 hours of directly supervised clinical practice.
- Interns must complete 40-120 hours of observation before they can begin earning clinical hours.
- 80% of required clinical hours (400 hours) must be completed with Bayou City Breastfeeding.
- All required Health Science Education and Lactation-Specific Education must be completed prior to applying.
- Only Pathway 3 candidates will be considered.
- Upon completion of the program and passing the IBCLC exam, interns are expected to join our practice as fully certified IBCLCs, contributing to our advanced practice team.

- A clear pathway to employment within our practice after successful certification.
Fees and Compensation:
- Interns pay for both observation and clinical hours as they are accrued.
- Clinical hours spent shadowing or gaining direct experience are unpaid.
- Paid opportunities (as a 1099 contract) for project work, charting, and administrative tasks are available throughout the internship.
